This baseball season, MasterCard invited me to participate in their Priceless Chicago program called the Cubs Pledge. It’s an opportunity for Chicago Cubs fans to pledge their support for the team.
My pledge is to donate $1 to Bright Pink for every game the Cubs win this season. Bright Pink is the only national non-profit organization focusing on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women while providing support for high-risk individuals. I learned about Bright Pink while participating in Listen To Your Mother.
Growing up in the Detroit suburbs, I was born and raised as a Detroit Tigers fan. The ’80s were filled with days at Tiger Stadium, with my dad, watching my favorites like Lou Whitaker, Alan Trammell, Lance Parish, and Kirk Gibson.
When I moved to Burlington, Vermont, in 1998, I fell in love with another baseball team ~ the New York Yankees. My boyfriend at the time was an avid fan and I quickly joined in the fun.
In 2000 I moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana…and kind of forgot about baseball (and how much I loved it).
When I moved my family to Chicago, my oldest son was only 18 months old. I knew I one day wanted to go to Wrigley Field, but with an 18 month old and a husband not interested in baseball, I knew I was years away from going to a game.
So when I was invited to participate in this Cubs campaign, I jumped at the chance. AT LAST! Not only would I be going to a Cubs game, but I’d be taking both of my boys. It was as if I had gone full circle – growing up going to baseball games with my dad and now taking my children to their first baseball game.
Not to get all American on you – but it was awesome…it was #priceless!
